This has happened two times. I get the house ready to show and the people don't come. It is very annoying. What else can we do? We answer calls, tell people about our house, tell them they can come see it....then they just don't show up. Why?

Hi Marsha,

That's incredibly rude of potential buyers not to show up. But those things do happen.

You may need to ask more questions and do more pre-qualifying with them over the phone to make sure you have a serious buyer. After you schedule the appointment, you may want to make a confirmation call the day of the appointment to make sure they're still going to show.

I think the key is in the pre-qualfication over the phone. If someone is serious, they will make the appointment.

Also, give them a number where they can easily reach you.

Good luck!

Marsha,
This has happened to me a few times too. I work out of my home, so when people schedule appointments during a work day, I lose valuable production time getting the house "just so." It's very frustrating to have to stay up until late at night catching up on my "real" work because someone made an appointment and then dropped off the face of the planet (no show).

There's really no excuse for someone to be so rude and inconsiderate. The only thing I can do is shrug it off and try to make sure the house stays as neat as possible so that I don't have to do as much prep work the next time someone calls for a showing. [Sigh!]

Well, I thought it would be different after I signed with an agent two weeks ago, but apparently not. I got a call from my real estate agent's office saying that an agent from PRU wanted to show the house today. I gave the ok, then spent hours getting the house "just so."

We left the house for a few hours so the agent could show the house, but when we returned, there was no business card, and no sign that anyone had even been in the house. I'm pretty sure it was another no-show by the PRU real estate agent. How rude!

Welcome to the world of real estate. This happens all the time to Realtors like my self. We spend a lot of time trying to pick through the calls searching for real buyers.

Agents are not suppose to leave business cards in your home and if we do what we are suppose to do you won't be able to tell we have been there. Ask your agent to contact the other agent to get some feed back for you. This will let you know if they showed or not. This does happen to agents some times.

why aren't agents supposed to leave cards? They do here and they did in Montgomery. I'm disgusted because my realtor had an agent call him, i left the house kililng time in a store and when i came bck no sign o f him. I made my realtor call and they had decided not to come but didn't have the courtesy to call yet it's at their request I"m made to leave. Very inconsiderate.

Another realtor came at dinner time the day i listed the house and knocked on the door to preview and said how nice the house was and how it ought to sell fast and they had 2 clients that might be interested. When my realtor called them back they wouldn't show the house to heir cient becuase I have too much in the house. furniture, not nicknacks and pictures.

Since when do you make the decision to the not show a house to aclient because there's one peiece offurniture too much.

People are flakes, It's even worse for rentals.  Less than half of the appointments I set for my rentals ever show up.  I would reconfirm an hour before with them.

First let there be no doubt that I agree, it's completely rude of people to not show up or call. That said, people get plenty of opportunities to derail before they ever make it to your doorbell. Your home might not be in the area they thought it was. Maybe it's further out than they thought or too remote. Maybe your neighbors are too close or your neighborhood not up to their standards. Perhaps your beautiful gardens mean a "high maintenance" yard to them and they don't know a weed from a flower and don't want to. Or maybe they don't like the color of your house or, even worse, your neighbors house!

There are many many reasons why people wouldn't show up or call but I don't think intentional rudeness or a desire to waste anyones time is on the list. People need to be held accountable. When you get a "no show" call them back once and see what happened. Maybe they got lost or misfortune struck and they would like to reschedule.
